Personal Symbols Assignment - Research

Symblol- something that represents something else, for example a logo representing a company and what the company does.

Culture- shared beliefs, values, customs and behaviours that are pasted down through generation and followed out by groups in society
This is the Greek word symbol meaning "fish". The visual part of the symbol represent the meaning because it is in the shape of a fish. it looks like the body and tail of a fish.

In Irish tradition a three- leaf clover represents the Holy Trinity. When it is found with four leaves, it represents God's grace. The visual part of the symbol represents the meaning because it is very rare to find a four- leaf clover, and if you do, you have good luck.

This is the christianity cross symbol. It represents the Catholic faith and how Jesus died on the cross for us. It memorializes Christ's death. The visual part of the symbol represents the meaning because it is a cross just like Jesus was crucified on.



The recycle symbol represents the three R's of the environment; reduce, re-use and recycle. The visual part of the symbol represents this with the three arrows in a circle that doesn't end. This shows that recycling things means we can continue to re-use the same materials.

The Handicap symbol represents easy acessability for the physically handicap people. The visual part of the symbol represents the meaning because it shows the shape of a person in a wheelchair, who would be physically disabled.


The non-smoking symbol represents that it is a smoke-free zone and you can not smoke in the area the sign is in. The visual part of the symbol represents the meaning because
4 things that the symbols have in common with each other visually are that they all have clean lines, they are not realistic looking, they are very simple, and they do not have a lot of detail. The colours in them are also limited to about 1 or 2 colours.
