Thought Process for Portfolio

Some of the things I like about the flash websites are:
The continuous movement of objects within it
Interactive
lots of buttons
movie clips
different colours

Some of the things I like about the Be Bop Jeans website are:
beginning was very eye catching
the sort of dull colours
the movie clips
use of space- no wasted space
really interactive
all other pages are conected to home page

Some of the things I like about the flowers feed the soul website are:
how the background is blured out but the focal point on each page is clear
there is always something moving (not boring)
there is a lot happening but it relates to each page you are on

These sites look professional because the images look clear. The lines are clean and everything works on the sites. I think the use of colour is good in them and they flow.

These sites inspire me to make my portfolio look really good. I want to make sure I use my time well to do a good job. Also it inspires me to choose my colours carefully and maybe relate them to my media art work.

General themes
bubbly
swirls and line designs
clean and rectangular
Cork Board

Personal Symbol Reflection

My personal symbol represents my interest in sports. I play ringette and the skates go with that. The sort of circle shape to my symbol, shows that my life is very busy and always on the go because of my teams. I chose to use the colours red and yellow because to me they are very energetic. Red is associated with energy, strength, and determination. These are all characteristics i see when i play ringette or broomball. Yellow is associated with energy and joy. The two colours together represent the hard work and effort I need to keep running and trying my hardest when I play brooball. In my symbol, it shows that I have fun playing my sports and I am happy to be playing them as well. Overall, my symbol just shows my love for being a part of a team and the energy I get from playing ringette and broomball. Sports are a big part of my life and they are very important to. I think my symbol represents this aspect of my life well.

Personal Symbols Assignment - Research

Symblol- something that represents something else, for example a logo representing a company and what the company does.

Culture- shared beliefs, values, customs and behaviours that are pasted down through generation and followed out by groups in society
This is the Greek word symbol meaning "fish". The visual part of the symbol represent the meaning because it is in the shape of a fish. it looks like the body and tail of a fish.

In Irish tradition a three- leaf clover represents the Holy Trinity. When it is found with four leaves, it represents God's grace. The visual part of the symbol represents the meaning because it is very rare to find a four- leaf clover, and if you do, you have good luck.

This is the christianity cross symbol. It represents the Catholic faith and how Jesus died on the cross for us. It memorializes Christ's death. The visual part of the symbol represents the meaning because it is a cross just like Jesus was crucified on.

The recycle symbol represents the three R's of the environment; reduce, re-use and recycle. The visual part of the symbol represents this with the three arrows in a circle that doesn't end. This shows that recycling things means we can continue to re-use the same materials.

The Handicap symbol represents easy acessability for the physically handicap people. The visual part of the symbol represents the meaning because it shows the shape of a person in a wheelchair, who would be physically disabled.

The non-smoking symbol represents that it is a smoke-free zone and you can not smoke in the area the sign is in. The visual part of the symbol represents the meaning because
4 things that the symbols have in common with each other visually are that they all have clean lines, they are not realistic looking, they are very simple, and they do not have a lot of detail. The colours in them are also limited to about 1 or 2 colours.

Sound Sculpture Reflection

One thing I like about my sound sculpture is how the egg cracks and the chick comes out. I think it turned out well and that part looks good.

One aspect I do not like so much in my sound sculpture is how some of the pictures with the boy have a not so smooth edge on the table. I think I could have spent more time fixing that.

If I could do this again, I might find some sounds to go with the expression of the boy. Like when he is disgusted at the end he could be saying eww or something.

Sound Sculpture Brainstorming

Sounds that I like:
nature ( wildlife, wind, etc.)
city noises
Places with sounds that I like:
in the woods, in the city
Objects with sounds that I like:
leaves rustling, animals, squeeky doors

1. The Fish bowl
I like how the hand looks realistic
I don't like how it doesnt really do a lot when you click on things
To improve this, I would make the objects more interactive

2. The Monster trucks
I like how each truck does something different
I do not like how nothing looks realistic
To improve this, I would make everything look more realistic and maybe have exhaust coming from the vehicles and have them do more than just jump over the other cars.

3. I like how the sound goes well with one another
I do not like how everything spins
To improve this I would make the circles do jumps and stuff instead of just spinning.

Possible Themes
I could have a forest at night, with the bright moon. there could be animals hiding behind trees or in burrows and when you click on them they come out and walk around or climb a tree or something else.

There could be a food chain with about 5 different consumers. When you click on each animal it shows what they eat and at the end who is left, at the top of the food chain.

I could have a person with a chicken burger in front of them at a restaurant and then you click on it and he says yum!! When the person bites it,he would hear a crunch and that makes him think of an egg. It could zoom in on the burger and then go to a new screen where there is an egg and then you click on it and it shows the egg hatching and you hear the shell cracking, then there is a chicken and when the mouse goes over it, it makes a chicken sound. The person's facial expression would then change and he would say something that sounds like he is grossed out.

Culture Jammer

The aspect of my culture jam that I find most successful is the actual sign. That is the part that a did completely from scratch and i think it turned out well.

The aspect of my culture jam that I find least successful is the trees in the background because I think I could have made the edges sort of flow with the rest of the culture jam better.

If I could do this project again, I would maybe make the sign look more realistic.

ideas for culture jammer

1. I could have a Mc donalds fry box and a big mac box But change the way they look. I could also write on the big mac box 100% fat, 100% colestrol, 100%bad health.

2. I could have the big Mc donalds M sign with a coffin incorporated in it and it could say over 60 billion dying.

3. I could do an advertisement for the health check symbol and incorporate a fast food place into it. it could say check your health instead of health check.

Culture Jammer Brainstorming

Spoof Ads from Adbuster

1. This ad represents nike.
2. Nike running shoes are being advertised.
3. A sad, young, less fortunate girl is used in the advertisement to subvert.
4. The nike logo is used in the advertisement
6. The target audience of the advertisement is people who work to make more money and aim for that raise.
7. Yes this ad jam conveys a clear and successful message.
8. The ad jam could be improved by maybe making it more simple but creating a strong message still.

1. This ad represents calvin klien.
2. How skinny the models are is being advertised.
3. real chicken legs and breasts are being advertised to subvert.
4. the calvin klien logo is used in the advertisement.
6. The target audience is people who go grocery shopping.
7. I think this ad jam conveys a some- what clear and successful message.
8. I think the ad jam could be improved by having the little details (the small writing) stand out a bit more.

1. This advertisement represents mc donalds.
2. How unhealthy mc donalds food is, is being advertised.
3. A heart monitor screen and a person on a operating table are being advertised to subvert.
4. The mc donalds M is used in the advertisement.
6. The target audience is people who like to protect their health.
7. I think this ad jam conveys a very clear and successful message.
8. I think the ad jam could be improved by even making that M bigger.

1. This advertisement represents Calvin Klien.
2. What is being advertised is what a lot of men look like in reality.
3. A not- so- perfect man is being advertised to subvert.
4. The Calvin Klien name is used in the advertisement.
6. The target audience is middle-aged men.
7. I think this ad jam conveys a clear message.
8. I think the ad jam could be improved by making the top words stand out more.

3-D Protest Poster

One aspect of my poster that I like the most is the bunny with all of the blue make-up around its eye. I think that it blends really well with the bunny and it just looks natual, like it actually is the bunny's eye.
One part of my poster that i do not like too much is the words. I think I could have maybe found a way to have the look more 3-D, to tie in more with the rest of the poster.
If I could do this again, I think I could maybe create a more interesting background to make the overall poster look better.

Environmental Entropy

The aspect of my image that I find most successful is the portrait of the dad and his kids on the brick wall. I really like how there is puzzle pieces missing, to show the family falling apart a bit.

The aspect of my image that I find least successful is the statue of the woman. I just think that she needs to look more like she is actually sitting on the ground because she kind of looks like she is floating a little.

If I could do this project again, I would try to find a better background for my image so that it could flow better.

Environmental Entopy

Definitions

Environment- the things or places that surround something or someone, that help them to grow or be who or what they are.

Entropy- the breakdown or uncertainty of an area

Brainstorming

1. I would like to show the breakdown of a country because even though we don't really think of a country breaking down, there are issues within a country that breakdown some areas. These issues include poverty, poor govnernment, etc.

2. I would like to show the breakdown of a street hockey rink. Many star athletes grew up playing street hockey and the area that they played in needs to be kept. They have sentimantal value as well.

3. I would like to show the breakdown of sick person. people don't often take the time to see what a sick person or their family are going through.

4. I would like to show the breakdown of a sports arena because as they age, the area around them changes and people want to come in and take them down to replace them. many athletes have grown in arenas and they have sentimental value to them.

5. I would like to show the breakdown of a catholic school because more and more people seem to be turning away from their religion so the schools might all just become public schools.

I am choosing idea #3 because there are a lot of people dealing with extreme sickness such as cancer and people need to know that is does kind of breakdown a family especially in the end, when that person dies.

My Alter Ego

This portrait shows my alter ego as fun and outgoing . I feel that is is a lot of what my friends do not see me as all the time, but something I would like them to see.

The aspect of my image that I find most successful is all the different abstract work and patterns. I like how there is layers of differnt patterns and the way they work together well.
The aspect of my image that I find least successful would be the colours. I think that maybe I could have used even brighter colours to show my alter ego.
If I could do this project again, the changes I would make to improve it would be to maybe add even more pattern to make it look more intersting.
